Description

Adjective + 게: Adding 게 to a Korean adjective makes it function as an adverb.

Notes

  • The adverbs should be placed immediately before whatever it modifies.
  • Some of the adverbs used in Korean might sound awkward if literally translated in English, for example '맛있게 먹어요' means eat deliciously.
  • Many adverbs have their own form and don't need to be combined with this grammar.

Pattern Case Example
Rule 1: Adjective + 게 If there is no 받침 or if the adjective/verb stem has ㄹ as a 받침 크다 → 크게
Rule 2: Adjective + 게 If there is a 받침 at the end of the adjective/verb stem 늦다 → 늦게
