V + 고 있다: This pattern is used to express a continuing action or a process. Must be distinguished form V + 아/어 있다 which is used to express the existence of a state or a fact.

Conjugation Rule

  • Verb stem + 고 있다

Conjugation Examples

  • 읽다 (to read) --> 읽고 있다
  • 씻다 (to wash) --> 씻고 있다
  • 하다 (to do) --> 하고 있다

Sentence Examples

  • 동생은 과일을 먹고 있다. (My brother is eatting some fruit.)
  • 나는 신문을 읽고 있다. (I am reading a paper.)
  • 동생은 컴퓨터게임을 하고 있다. (My sister is playing a computer game.)
  • 나는 음악을 듣고 있다. (I am listening to music.)
  • 나는 껌을 씹고 있다. (I am chewing a gum.)
