자장면, 잘리다 should be pronounced as 자장면, 잘리다. Many people just pronounce as 짜장면, 짤리다 but that's wrong. 자장면and 잘리다 are right. --Jay shin 02:04, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Jay shin
- Doesn't everyone almost pronounce it as 짜장면 and 짤리다? I saw an article about the controversy about the spelling of 자장면 where people wanted it spelled 짜장면 like before --Bluesoju 02:22, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right. Almost veryone pronounce it as 짜장면 and 짤리다. But official pronounciation is 자장면 and 잘리다. You'll see that newscaters or announcers are pronouce it as 자장면. And we should pronounce it as 자장면, 잘리다 at formal places such as presentation. So learners need to know both (자장면 and 짜장면, 잘리다 and 짤리다), i think. --Jay shin 06:26, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- How about these? 똑같애 and 똑같아, 챙피해 and 창피해, 맨날 and 만날? When speaking formal is the second one always used?
- Yes. The second one is used. But 만날 sounds awkward because almost everyone pronounce it as 맨날. So if you want to say 'everyday, every single day', just use '매일' instead of '만날' when speaking formal. --Jay shin 15:36, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe I should name this section "Alternate pronunciation." One title for word, common pronunciation(i.e. 맨날) and third one is the formal choice (i.e. 매일 or 자장면 etc). --Bluesoju 23:54, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
