효진: 언니, 안녕하세요.

Hyojin: Hello, Gyeong-eun.

경은: 안녕하세요. 효진 씨, 우리 오늘 뭐에 대해서 이야기 할 거예요?

Gyeong-eun: Hello. Hyojin, what are we going to talk about today?

효진: 제가 되게 좋아하는 음식에 대해서 이야기할 거예요.

Hyojin: We're going to talk about a food I really like.

경은: 저도 정말 좋아해요.

Gyeong-eun: I really like it, too.

효진: 진짜 맛있지 않아요?

Hyojin: Isn't it really delicious?

경은: 네. 뭐에 대해서?

Gyeong-eun: Yeah. What are we talking about?

효진: 김밥.

Hyojin: Gimbab,

경은: 김밥. 김밥 쌀 줄 알아요?

Gyeong-eun: Gimbab. Do you know how to make gimbab?

효진: 네.

Hyojin: Yes.

경은: 거짓말 하지 말아요. 왜 자꾸 레슨에서 거짓말을 해요.

Gyeong-eun: Don't lie. Why do you frequently lie during our lessons?

효진: 저 싸 본 적이 있어요. 진짜로.

Hyojin: I've tried making it. Really.

경은: 진짜로?

Gyeong-eun: For real?

효진: 어릴 때, 유치원에서.

Hyojin: When I was young, at kindergarten.

경은: 유치원에서 김밥을 싸 봤어요?

Gyeong-eun: You tried making gimbab at kindergarten?

효진: 네. 아빠랑 함께 하는 그런 날이었거든요.

Hyojin: Yeah. It was one of those days when your dad goes with you, you see.

경은: 아빠랑 함께 김밥 만드는 날.

Gyeong-eun: Make-Gimbab-With-Your-Dad Day.

효진: 사진도 있어요.

Hyojin: I even have pictures.

경은: 진짜요? 먹을 수 있었어요?

Gyeong-eun: Really? Could you eat the gimbab?

효진: 아빠랑 같이 만들었다니까요.

Hyojin: I said I made it with my dad, didn't I?

경은: 아빠가 다 만들었구나.

Gyeong-eun: Ah! So your dad did everything.

효진: 그러는 언니는 김밥 만들 수 있어요?

Hyojin: So can you make gimbab?

경은: 네. 만들 수 있어요. 저는 두 번 만들어 봤어요.

Gyeong-eun: Yes, I can. I've made it twice.

효진: 먹을 수 있어요?

Hyojin: Can you eat it?

경은: 진짜 맛있었어요.

Gyeong-eun: It was really delicious.

효진: 누가 언니 말고 다른 사람이 그렇게 말해 준 적 있어요?

Hyojin: Did anyone else besides you say so?

경은: 그럼요. 같이 먹은 사람들이 맛있다고 했어요. 저희 가족들도 진짜 맛있다고 했고요.

Gyeong-eun: Sure. The people I ate it with said it was delicious. And my family said it was really delicious, too.

효진: 언니를 무서워 해서 그런 것 같아요.

Hyojin: Must be because they're scared of you.

경은: 아니에요. 효진 씨. 전혀 아니에요. 효진 씨는 그럼 무슨 김밥 좋아해요? 김밥에도 종류가 정말 많잖아요.

Gyeong-eun: No, Hyojin. Not at all. So, Hyojin—what kind of gimbab do you like? There are many types of gimbab, aren't there?

효진: 저는 참치 김밥이랑 소고기 김밥 좋아해요.

Hyojin: I like tuna gimbab and beef gimbab.

경은: 어떤 김밥이 있죠?

Gyeong-eun: What kinds of gimbab are there, again?

효진: 참치 김밥, 소고기 김밥, 야채 김밥, 계란 김밥, 김치 김밥.

Hyojin: Tuna gimbab, beef gimbab, vegetable gimbab, egg gimbab, gimchi gimbab.

경은: 계란 김밥도 있어요?

Gyeong-eun: There's even egg gimbab?

효진: 없나? 모르겠는데요. (없는 것 같은데요.)

Hyojin: Isn't there? I don't know. (I don't think there is.)

경은: 치즈 김밥, (맞다.) 그리고 김치 김밥도 있어요.

Gyeong-eun: Cheese gimbab. (Right.) And there's also gimchi gimbab.

효진: 맞아요.

Hyojin: That's right.

경은: 그리고 충무 김밥, 오징어 김밥.

Gyeong-eun: And Chungmu gimbab, squid gimbab.

효진: 충무 김밥은 되게 다른 것 같아요. 그렇죠?

Hyojin: I think Chungmu gimbab is very different. Isn't that right?

경은: 맞아요. 충무 김밥은 굉장히 작게 나오는 거죠?

Gyeong-eun: That's right. Chungmu gimbab is extremely small, right?

효진: 밥 밖에 없어요. 김이랑 밥.

Hyojin: There's nothing but rice. Seaweed and rice.

경은: 조그맣게 김이랑 밥이 있고, 그리고 김치?

Gyeong-eun: There's a tiny amount of seaweed and rice, and gimchi?

효진: 오징어를 이렇게 빨갛게 볶은 것.

Hyojin: That squid roasted to like a deep red.

경은: 그거를 같이 먹는 거죠. 정말 종류가 다양한 것 같아요. 저는 참치 김밥이 제일 좋아요.

Gyeong-eun: Those things come with it, huh. Really there are a lot of different kinds, I guess. My favorite is tuna gimbab.

효진: 진짜 맛있지 않아요?

Hyojin: Isn't it really delicious?

경은: 네. 너무 너무 좋아해요.

Gyeong-eun: Yeah. It's so so good.

효진: 저는 김밥을 떡볶이 국물에 찍어 먹는 걸 제일 좋아해요.

Hyojin: My favorite is dipping it in ddeokbokki sauce and eating it.

경은: 김밥이 보통 얼마죠?

Gyeong-eun: How much is gimbab, usually?

효진: 보통, 그냥 일반 야채 김밥은 1,500원, 참치 김밥이나 다른 소고기 김밥 이런 거는 2,000원에서 2,500원?

Hyojin: Usually, just normal vegetable gimbab is 1,500 won, tuna gimbab or other beef gimbab and this kind of thing is between 2,000 and 2,500 won?

경은: 저는 거의 2,500원 하는 것 같아요. 다른 음식들이 비해서는 싼 편이라서 그래도 많이 사는 것 같고요, 그래도 제일 맛있는 거는 저는 “엄마표” 김밥인 것 같아요.

Gyeong-eun: I think it's almost 2,500 won. Because it's a bit cheaper compared with other food, it seems like I buy a lot of it, too. And then, I think the most delicious one is Mom's homemade gimbab.

효진: 맞아요. 정말.

Hyojin: That's right. Really.

경은: 저희 엄마가 싸 주는 김밥이 세상에서 제일 맛있어요.

Gyeong-eun: The gimbab my mom makes for me is the most delicious in the world.

효진: 저희 엄마는 소고기 김밥을 만드시는데, 소고기도 훨씬 맛있고, 양도 많고, 그래서 진짜 맛있는 것 같아요.

Hyojin: My mom makes beef gimbab, and the beef is incredibly delicious, and there's a lot of it, so I think it's really delicious.

경은: 어렸을 때, 소풍갈 때 항상 김밥을 싸 줬었잖아요. 근데 항상 저는 애들이랑 자기네 엄마 김밥이 더 맛있다고 막 자랑하고 싸우고 그랬었어요.

Gyeong-eun: When I was young, when we went on a picnic, our moms had always made us gimbab, didn't they? But we'd always fought and bragged that our own mom's gimbab was more delicious.

효진: 저는 안 그랬는데요. 친구들하고 사이좋게 나눠 먹었는데요.

Hyojin: It wasn't like that for me. We were friendly and shared our food.

경은: 사이좋게 나눠 먹었는데. 누구 김밥이 더 맛있느냐 그런 이야기는 많이 했어요.

Gyeong-eun: We were friendly and shared, but we talked a lot about whose gimbab was more delicious.

효진: 저는 안 그랬어요.

Hyojin: It wasn't like that for me.

경은: 알겠습니다. 근데 효진 씨, 김밥에 뭐가 들어가죠?

Gyeong-eun: Okay, okay. But Hyojin—what's in gimbab?

효진: 솔직히 말하면 김밥 싸는 사람 마음이긴 한데, 기본적으로 김이랑, 밥이랑, 보통 햄도 많이 들어가고, (그리고 계란) 계란, 우엉도 들어가면 맛있어요.

Hyojin: Frankly speaking, it's up to the person making it, but basically seaweed, rice, usually there's ham, (and egg) egg, and it's delicious if there's some burdock root.

경은: 기본적으로 들어가는 것은 단무지.

Gyeong-eun: Pickled radish is an essential ingredient.

효진: 단무지 맞어.

Hyojin: Right. Pickled radish.

경은: 그리고 맛살도 꼭 넣죠.

Gyeong-eun: And you definitely put in some clam.

효진: 당근.

Hyojin: Carrots.

경은: 네. 당근도 넣고. 오이 넣을 때도 있고요.

Gyeong-eun: Yes. And put in carrots. And sometimes people put in cucumber.

효진: 저는 김밥에 오이 들어가는 거를 참을 수가 없어요. 정말 너무 싫어해요.

Hyojin: I can't stand if there's cucumber in my gimbab. I really hate it so much.

경은: 꼭 이런 사람이 있어요. 효진 씨 같은 사람이 있어요. 김밥을 싸 오면 당근이나, 오이 같은 거를 쏙 빼서, 빼 놓는 거예요.

Gyeong-eun: There are definitely people like that. There are people like you. If you make them gimbab, be sure to leave carrots or cucumbers right out.

효진: 저 당근 먹어요. 당근은 먹고, 오이도 그냥 먹으면 먹는데 김밥에 오이가 들어가는 건 진짜 먹을 수가 없어요. 너무 싫어요.

Hyojin: I eat carrots. I eat carrots and I eat cucumbers plain, but I really can't eat gimbab with cucumbers in it. It's awful.

경은: 너무 맛있는데요.

Gyeong-eun: But it's so delicious.

효진: 너무 맛이 없어요. 저한테 김밥 싸 주지 마세요.

Hyojin: It's so bad. Don't make me gimbab.

경은: 효진 씨, 후회할 거예요. 제가 만든 김밥 정말 맛있어요.

Gyeong-eun: Hyojin—you're going to regret it. The gimbab I make is really delicious.

효진: 언니는 맨날 언니가 만든 뭐가 맛있고, 언니가 만든 뭐가 맛있고 이러는데 한 번도 만들어 준 적이 없잖아요.

Hyojin: Everyday you say this thing you made was delicious, that thing you made was delicious, but you've never once made us something, have you?

경은: 왜냐하면 제가 만들면 맛있긴 맛있어요. 근데 한 5시간이 걸려요. 그래서 쉬는 날이 아니면 만들 수가 없어요. 저 번에 김밥 만들었을 때도 다섯 시간 만큼은 안 들었는데 세 시간은 걸린 것 같아요.

Gyeong-eun: Because, when I make it, it really is delicious. But it takes about 5 hours. So when it's not a day off I can't make it. Last time when I made gimbab it didn't take a whole five hours, but I think it did take three hours.

효진: 재료가 세 시간 동안 신선하게 유지 되나요?

Hyojin: Do the ingredients keep fresh for three hours?

경은: 그럼요. 진짜 김밥 안 만들어 본 티가 나네요. 아무튼 저희는 이렇게 김밥을 좋아하는데 여러분들은 김밥을 먹어 봤는지 모르겠어요.

Gyeong-eun: Sure. It really looks like I've never made gimbab. Anyway, while we like it so much, I don't know if you, our listeners, have tried gimbab.

효진: 김밥이 어떤 건지 다 아실까요? 저희 청취자 분들께서?

Hyojin: What kind of thing do they all think gimbab is, our listeners?

경은: 한국어를 공부하는 분들이라면 많이들 알 것 같고 또 김밥을 좋아할 것 같은데요, 혹시 김밥을 만들어 본 적이 있으신가요? 여러분 저희한테 이야기 해 주세요.
