Kyeong-eun: Hello. This is Kyeong-eun Choi.

석진: 경은 누나.

Seokjin: Kyeong-eun?

경은: 네.

Kyeong-eun: Yes?

석진: 오늘은 뭐에 대해서 이야기할 거예요?

Seokjin: What are we going to talk about today?

경은: 제가 제일 좋아하는 거에 대해서 이야기할 거예요.

Kyeong-eun: We're going to talk about my favorite thing.

석진: 남자?

Seokjin: Men?

경은: 물론 좋아하지만, 제가 먹는 걸 굉장히 좋아하거든요.

Kyeong-eun: Of course I like men, but you know I really like eating.

석진: 정말요?

Seokjin: Really?

경은: 네. 맛있는 것 굉장히 좋아해서, “맛집”을 좀 찾아다니는 스타일이에요. 그래서 오늘은 “맛 집”에 대해서 이야기를 해 봐요.

Kyeong-eun: Yeah. Because I really like delicious things, I tend to seek out matjibs (delicious and popular restaurants). So today we're talking about matjibs.

석진: “맛집!” (네.) 누나 “맛집” 많이 알고 있어요?

Seokjin: Matjibs! (Yeah.) Kyeong-eun, do you know a lot of matjibs?

경은: 홍대는 많이 알아요.

Kyeong-eun: I know a lot in Hongdae.

석진: 홍대.

Seokjin: Hongdae.

경은: 네. 왜냐하면 홍대가 회사에서도 가깝고, 그리고 집에서도 가까워서 항상 친구들을 만날 때 홍대에서 친구들을 만나거든요. 그러다 보니까 맛있는 곳에 가서 음식을 먹고 싶잖아요. 주 로 친구들을 만나면 점심이나 저녁 식사를 하니까요. 그래서 알게 됐어요.

Kyeong-eun: Yeah. Because Hongdae is close to work, and close to home, so when I meet my friends, I always meet them there, you see. So then we want to go somewhere delicious to eat some food, don't we? Since usually when I meet my friends we eat lunch or dinner. So I've gotten to know some matjibs.

석진: 저 같은 경우에는 서울에 올라온 지 얼마 안 됐어요. (네.) 그래서 “맛집” 찾기가 너무 어려워 요.

Seokjin: In my case, it hasn't been that long since I came to Seoul. (Yeah.) So it's so hard to find matjibs.

경은: 그래요? 석진 씨도 근데 많이 알고 있지 않아요?

Kyeong-eun: Oh yeah? So don't you know many, too?

석진: 친구들이 소개시켜 줘서 몇 군데 알아내긴 했는데, 저 스스로 어떻게 찾아야 되는지 모르겠 어요. (그래요?) 네.

Seokjin: Because my friends have introduced me to them, I've found out about a few places, sure, but I have no idea how to find them on my own. (Really?) Yeah.

경은: 근데 사실, “맛집”이라고 검색을 하면, 그래서 그 곳을 가면 진짜 “맛집”은 아니잖아요.

Kyeong-eun: But actually, if you search “matjib,” and then go there, it's not really a matjib, is it?

석진: 속는 경우가 좀 있어요.

Seokjin: I've been tricked a few times.

경은: 그렇죠. 요즘에는 그런 게 더 심해진 것 같아요.

Kyeong-eun: Right. These days that kind of thing has become more severe.

석진: 워낙 사람들이 블로그도 많이 하고, 스스로 많이 쓰니까.

Seokjin: Since originally people blog a lot, and the owners write it themselves.

경은: 광고성 글들도 많죠. (네.) 그래서 요즘에 저는 다 믿지는 않고요, 검색을 해서 많이 나오는 곳을 찾아가요.

Kyeong-eun: There are a lot of comments advertising for somewhere, right? (Yeah.) So these days I don't believe everything, I just go find places that come up a lot when you do a search.

석진: 그러면 댓글도 많이 달리고, 조회수도 많이 나오면 약간 믿을 수 있겠네요.

Seokjin: Ah—In that case, if a lot of comments are posted, and it's gotten a lot of hits, you should be able to believe it a little.

경은: 그렇죠. 그리고 한 번 시도를 해 보는 거죠.

Kyeong-eun: Sure. And then you try it once, you know.

석진: 그렇구나. 누나는 “맛집” 언제 가요?

Seokjin: Ah, I see. When do you go to matjibs?

경은: 친구들 만날 때 가요.

Kyeong-eun: I go when I meet my friends.

석진: 친구들하고 만날 때?

Seokjin: When you meet your friends?

경은: 네. 근데 보통 여자들은 만나면 “맛집”을 찾아 가잖아요. 근데 보통 “맛집”에 가면 줄이 길게 서 있어요.

Kyeong-eun: Yeah. But usually when I meet with girls, we go find a matjib, don't we? But usually if we go to a matjib, we stand in line for a long time.

석진: 홍대가 좀 심하죠.

Seokjin: It's a bit of a problem in Hongdae.

경은: 홍대뿐만 아니라, 강남이든 어디든, 정말 “맛집”이라고 알려져 있으면, 기본 1시간 정도는 기다려야 돼요. 근데 제가 알기로는 여자들은 그렇게 “맛집”을 찾아다니고, 그리고 줄을 그렇게 줄을 1시간 동안 서서 기다려서 먹는 걸 좋아하는데, 남자들은 그런 거 싫어하지 않나요?

Kyeong-eun: It's not just Hongdae, but anywhere in Gangnam, if it's known to be a matjib, you have to wait at least an hour. But as I understand it, girls like going around finding matjibs that way and eating after waiting in line for an hour, but don't men hate it?

석진: 만약에 애인이나, 여자들하고 같이 가면 기다릴 수 있어요. 근데, 남자들끼리 가면 절대 못 기다리죠.

Seokjin: If we go with our girlfriend or some girls, we can wait. But, if we go with guys, we absolutely couldn't wait, of course.

경은: 남자들끼리도 “맛집”을 가요?

Kyeong-eun: Do men go together to matjibs, too?

석진: 거의 안 가요.

Seokjin: We hardly ever go.

경은: 거의 안 가요?

Kyeong-eun: Hardly ever?

석진: 제일 가까운 곳이, 그 곳이 “맛집”이에요.

Seokjin: Whatever the closest place is, that's a matjib.

경은: 그래요?

Kyeong-eun: Really?

석진: 네.

Seokjin: Yeah.

경은: 근데 남자들보면 “맛집”을 잘 알고 있는 남자들도 많이 있던데요? 갑자기 생각이 들었는데, 그런 사람은 바람둥이일까요?

Kyeong-eun: But with men, as I know it there are a lot of men who know matjibs, too. It just occurred to me, but might those people be players?

석진: 모르겠어요. 만약에 경은 누나가 어떤 남자를 알게 됐는데 “맛집”을 많이 알고 있어요. 그럼 어떻게 생각하실 것 같아요?

Seokjin: I don't know. If you met a some guy and he knew a lot of matjibs, what would you think?

경은: 글쎄요. 그 사람이 마음에 들면 “어 이 사람 정말 괜찮은 사람이다!” 마음에 들지 않으면 “혹시, 이 사람 바람둥이 아니야?” 이럴 것 같아요.

Kyeong-eun: Hm... If I like him, “Oh! This guy is really alright!” If I don't like him, “Is this guy maybe a player?” It seems like I'd think like that.

석진: 그래서 저도 제가 알고 있는 “맛집”을 자신 있게 소개를 못 시켜 드리겠어요.

Seokjin: So I can't comfortably introduce people to any of the matjibs I know, either.

경은: 진짜요?

Kyeong-eun: Really?

석진: 소개팅 같은 데에.

Seokjin: Like on a blind date.

경은: 근데 보통 여자들은 남자들이 먼저 그런 데를 많이 알아서 데려가는 걸 좋아하는 것 같아요. 여자들한테 계속 “뭐 먹을래? 어디 갈래?” 이렇게 물어 보는 것보다 “내가 정말 괜찮은 맛집 아니까 같이 가자.”그랬는데 맛이 없으면 큰일 나는 거고.

Kyeong-eun: But usually I think women like if men already know a lot of those sorts of places and take them there. Rather than constantly asking her, “What do you wanna eat? Where do you wanna go?”, it's better if you tell her, “Since I know a matjib that's really alright, let's check it out.” Though if you go and it's awful, you've got a problem.

석진: 정말 큰일 나는 거죠.

Seokjin: You've really got a problem, sure.

경은: 그랬는데 맛있으면 정말 좋은 거죠.

Kyeong-eun: But if you go and it's delicious, it's really good, of course.

석진: 점수를 따는 건가요?

Seokjin: Do you score some points?

경은: 그렇죠. 점수를 따는 거죠.

Kyeong-eun: Right. You sure do.

석진: 많이 알아야 되겠네요.

Seokjin: Wow—I'll have to find a lot of them.

경은: 많이 알면 좋은 것 같아요. 어차피 같은 돈 내고 음식 먹는데, 맛있는 것 먹는 게 저는 좋은 것 같아요. 제가 생각할 때는 그래요. 근데 제 주변에는 “굳이 맛집을 갈 필요가 있느냐, 1시간동안 시간 낭비를 뭣 하러 하나?”생각하는 사람들도 많더라고요.

Kyeong-eun: I think it'll be good if you know a lot. Anyway, I think it's nice when you find a matjib and although it costs the same, it's delicious. In my opinion. But I think there are a lot of people around me who think, “Do we really have to go to a matjib, why waste an hour?”

석진: 그런데 제가 저번에 “맛집”을 한 번 간 적이 있어요.

Seokjin: By the way, I've been to a matjib once before.

경은: 네.

Kyeong-eun: Yeah.

석진: 거기 가서 한 30분 동안 기다린 적도 있었는데, 너무 맛있었어요.

Seokjin: I went there and I had to wait an hour, but it was so delicious.

경은: 진짜요?

Kyeong-eun: Really?

석진: 네. 기다린 보람이 있었어요.

Seokjin: Yeah. It was worth the wait.

경은: 후회 안 했어요?

Kyeong-eun: You didn't regret it?

석진: 안 했어요.

Seokjin: Nope.

경은: 그래요?

Kyeong-eun: Really?

석진: 네.

Seokjin: Yeah.

경은: 저는 좋은 것 같아요. 석진 씨도 제가 생각할 때는 좋아하는 것 같고요. 먹는 거, 맛있는 거 좋아하잖아요. 석진 씨도.

Kyeong-eun: I think that's good. I think you like it, too. You, too, like eating and delicious stuff, don't you?

석진: 네. 요즘 인터넷 사이트에 그런 “맛집”만 전문적으로 알려 주는 사이트가 또 있지 않나요?

Seokjin: Yeah. These days aren't there websites too that specialize only in matjibs?

경은: 많이 있죠. 그런 사이트들 근데 다 믿지는 못 할 것 같아요. 요즘에는 정말 너무 많아서 저는 솔직히 그런 사이트들은 안 믿고 보통 친구들한테 물어 봐서 “맛집”을 잘 아는 친구들이 있으니까요, 그런 친구들한테 물어 봐서 가면 정말 “맛집”인 것 같아요.

Kyeong-eun: There are a lot, of course. But I think you can't believe in all those sites. These days because there are so many of them, frankly I don't believe them, and since I have friends who know a lot about matjibs, if I ask them and go, it's like a real matjib.

석진: 그러면 진짜 “맛집”을 찾으려면 경은 누나한테 물어 보면 되겠네요.

Seokjin: In that case if I want to find a real matjib, I should ask Kyeong-eun.

경은: 저랑 입맛이 비슷하다면, 괜찮을 것 같아요. 친구들 데려가면 친구들 다 맛있다고 하는 것 같아요.

Kyeong-eun: If you have the same taste as me, I think it'll be okay. If I take my friends, I think they all say it's delicious.
