+
Do you have a camera that takes high quality pictures?
+
*Some of the pictures on this website were taken on a camera phone, if you have a higher quality one, upload a new version of that image. See the category camera phone images to see which pictures need to be replaced with a higher quality image.
+
*We need pictures of Chinese characters, hanja (한자),  in use for our hanja vocabulary pages. If you see a sign with hanja in use, please take a picture of it and upload it.
+
*We need pictures of anything that could go on any of the vocabulary pages. For examples on the types of pictures that would be suitable, look at the subway vocabulary page for examples of how pictures can improve vocabulary pages.
+
*Any picture you think would be beneficial to learning Korean or measuring one's ability in Korean.
+
*Pictures should also have an explanation and translation in the image's description.

<div class="plainlinks" style="padding:0.4em 1em 0.3em;">

Do you have a digital audio recorder or any device that can record audio? We are looking for people to:

*Record telephone messages, for example check this page: Phone and calling

*Record phone calls while ordering delivery (native speaker preferred). Of course before uploading, please edit out your real address and credit card number if you used one while order. See: Ordering delivery

*Record unique subway announcements, to see which ones are already up see: Subway announcements.

*Record any announcements from the bus.

*Record any kind of announcement in public that many people might hear on a daily basis and would benefit learners of Korean (i.e. at the ATM machine, see this example).

*Some of the audio on this site needs the background noise filtered out (i.e. subway announcements), if you know how to do this, please contact Bluesoju.

<div class="plainlinks" style="padding:0.4em 1em 0.3em;">

*Are you an exchange student? How about contributing to the vocabulary sections on areas related to your major.

*Are you a student at a language institute learning Korean? We need you to categorize some of the grammar patterns according to what level you are learning them at your school, for example Seoul National University level 1 grammar patterns. We need contributions especially from students at Yonsei or Sogang university programs to categorize the grammar patterns as well. (instructions)

*Being a language student, you learn many details and rules not included in the textbooks. Add some of the insights you've learned to the grammar patterns section.

<div class="plainlinks" style="padding:0.4em 1em 0.3em;">

*Are you an artist or graphic designer? We need custom pictures for the vocabulary section. Many vocabulary textbooks come with pictures, so we'd like something similar for our pages, i.e. a human body label in Korean.

*Create anything that might make this website look more aesthetically pleasing.

<div class="plainlinks" style="padding:0.4em 1em 0.3em;">

*Since many textbooks don't give natural examples, we are looking to put our own examples. We need people to add sentence examples to grammar patterns, idioms, and other phrases. Please see incomplete examples for some pages that need more sentence examples.

*Are you from outside of Seoul and speak another dialect (사투리)? We need help on our 사투리 pages!

Welcome to the Korean Wiki Project! This project is a collaborative effort to unify knowledge on the Korean language and to make the information easily accessible and relevant to anyone. First, it must be noted that this site is under major construction; A lot of the articles are incomplete and have only been created for future editing. One of the goals of this project is to provide the most accurate, in-depth information and translations for Korean grammar patterns and vocabulary words where other dictionaries and books fail. Another goal is to make all information on here simple and easy to understand. As more people contribute to this project, the information becomes more accurate and better explained. For more information on this project, see the about section.

 +
*If you have any suggestions, ideas, or requests for this wiki, please post them on here (you do not need an account): Suggestions and Requests
 +
*A lot of the articles here are incomplete. If you would like to request an article to be finished, we can give it priority. To do so, just leave a comment here: Suggestions and Requests

This website explains Korean grammar patterns, idioms, slang, along with practical vocabulary words organized by subject. This site will also thoroughly teach you how to read and write Hangeul (한글), the Korean script, with many examples and even advanced consonant assimilation rules. The site was originally intended to explain everything in English, however as the majority of Korean language students these days are Japanese and Chinese, we encourage users to provide translations in both languages respectively.

<div style="border-bottom:1px solid #007236; padding:0.4em 1em 0.3em;">

Anyone who has studied Korean as a second language knows it’s hard to find a book that is both accurate and easy to read. On top of that, most books don’t provide thorough details on grammar usage and don’t describe the feeling certain grammar and words give. Even the best dictionaries provide no insight into whether the word is mostly used by females, if it’s inappropriate to use with strangers and if the word sounds too formal to use on most occasions. These are often learned in intensive language institutes and through immersing yourself in Korean, where using the wrong word might’ve made a few people laugh at your expense.

For students studying at a language institute, the standard text book might not provide enough explanations, examples or have numerous bad translations. So these students often rely on other textbooks (which have their own problems as well) and end up looking through several textbooks. When it’s time to study, no student wants to carry around several textbooks and hunt for the same grammar pattern in each one. Additionally, there will be things the student learns in class that aren’t provided in any of their textbooks.

With a wiki, people who have already figured out accurate translations for Korean grammar patterns can give their own 2 cents on current articles, as well as create their own articles. Telling the textbook it’s wrong isn’t going to change anything, whereas in a wiki if you see something wrong you can fix it yourself and add your own insight. Furthermore no one wants to carry around several text books and pages of notes and go searching through them; it’s much easier to pull up an article on this wiki, not to mention it can be accessed anywhere, anytime. For more information, see about Korean Wiki Project.

As with all good wikis, we need a number of good contributors, both non-native and native speakers alike. Non-native speakers, especially those who have taken Korean classes and own various textbooks, shouldn't shy away from contributing.  By contributing, you can help cement concepts in your mind. However, with non-native speakers contributing, not all examples and sentences will come out correctly. There are always sentences that seem good, but still sound awkward to native speakers. This is where having native speakers contributing would be extremely helpful. If you want to start contributing now, please create an account. After creating an account, please visit the getting started guide for more helpful information. The more people contributing, the more we can get done, which means more accurate and thorough information about the Korean language available to everyone.
+

You don't have to be a grammar guru or an expert to contribute. If you have other ways to contribute, then by all means please do so.

Newspaper icon.png Welcome

 • If you have any suggestions, ideas, or requests for this wiki, please post them on here (you do not need an account): Suggestions and Requests
 • A lot of the articles here are incomplete. If you would like to request an article to be finished, we can give it priority. To do so, just leave a comment here: Suggestions and Requests
Question orange.png Getting Started

Before attempting anything on the wiki, you should confirm that your web browser can properly display Korean characters. If you see random boxes and gibberish or Korean characters here: "안녕하세요?" then you must install Korean characters.

 • To contribute most effectively to this wiki, you will often need to be able to type in Korean. For instructions on how to install Korean language input, click here.
 • If you are not able to read the Korean script, then the first thing you should do is check out the section on learning Hangeul.
 • If this is your first experience with the Korean language, it is highly recommended that you check out the full Getting Started page.

Contributing
There are many ways to contribute. For basics ways on how you can contribute to this wiki, see the contributing page.
Vocabulary
Do you understand many words in Korean and are able to produce accurate explanations? The vocabulary pages always need expanding or editing, and your help would be much appreciated.
Stubs
Stubs are articles that are incomplete and need some work. If there is anything you can do to add more to these or even finish an article, then by all means please do so.
Photography
If you have a digital camera and live in Korea, please snap pictures of signs, electronic equipment with Korean buttons, or anything that might have some use for learning Korean. For example pictures, see Help:Images and photos or Category:Images.
Media
Looking for a simple task? How about just adding lyrics to the latest Korean songs in the music section? These lyrics can be interpreted by more experienced users and expanded into a learning material by providing brief insight into grammar concepts utilized in the song.
To Do
Look through the tasks on the to do page to see if there is any task with which you can help. A number of important assignments sometimes appear on this list, posted by users who would like assistance from the community.
Brainstorm
Have any ideas for this project? Please add them to the brainstorm page and help the wiki grow.

[ edit ]
All of the below entries are important tasks. If you can, please contribute to these articles in any way possible to help fill in pages that have been identified as important.

Internet and text messaging
We need more work done on this page. Please add content to this page.
Sogang and Yonsei categories needed!
We already have categories up for grammar patterns that appear in the Seoul National University program in the grammar pattern section. However we need current and former Sogang and Yonsei students to categorize grammar patterns for their respective text books. For example, if you see a grammar pattern that appeared in the level 1 book of the Sogang program, add or if there is a grammar pattern in Yonsei's level 3 grammar add to the bottom of the particular grammar page (and so on). As an example here are the categories for SNU:
Welcome template
Could someone please translate this into Korean as well? Just translate the basics and leave the links the same, I will fix the links.
Passive form
We need a more complete list of passive verbs.
Causative form
We need a more complete list of Causative verbs.
Assistant.png Experts and Native Speakers
Grammar
The grammar pages could always use more detailed or clear explanations. In fact, many of the grammar patterns still need to be defined and need examples. If you are a native speaker, please add sentence examples and explanations.
Grammar comparison
Do you know the distinction between two grammars? Please explain the difference or add more details to an already written article to help clarify some difficult similarities.
Incomplete examples
We need sentence examples for grammar pages, slang pages, proverb pages, and many others. If you are a native speaker, please visit the incomplete examples category to see which pages still need more sentence examples.
Hanja
Help complete our list of examples for individual Chinese roots or Hanja pages. Add examples, check for correct meanings, or add new characters that you find missing.
Slang and Proverbs
Please help organize and add new slang and proverbs.
Korean translation needed!
The pages listed here need to have a Korean version translated for them. If it is possible, please translate the English and make a Korean version for Korean users.
Articles
Add or edit articles about Korean culture or living in Korean in this section.
Visit a random page
Visit a random page and see if you can spot any typos, errors, inaccuracies, or if there is anything you can add to the article. If you find a page much lacking in the quality or quantity of its information, please stub it by adding the following text to the page:
