그냥 봐서 즐거우니까 좋다라고 말하는 사람이 많은 것 같아요.
I think a lot of people just like say they like them because they look nice.

최경은 : 아, 그래요? (네) 어, 맞어, 맞어.
Kyeong-eun Choi : Ah, really? (Yea) Ah yea, you’re right, you’re right.

근데 또, 저도 현정 씨랑 거의 비슷하게 (네) 자상하고 (네) 그리고 재미있고, (네) 음… 좀… 뭐랄까? 여자들 이야기 잘 들어 주는 (네)

I asked, why in the world do you like bad boys (yea) and she said they aren’t bad boys to me (yea) just towards other people (Ah…) they are bad boys, but he is only kind to me.

최경은 : 드라마를 너무 많이 봤죠.

자기한테 잘 해 주면 그 사람은 매력이 없게 느껴지고, 자기가 더 많이 좋아하는 사람이 좋다는 거죠. 그런…
If someone just does nice things for her, she doesn’t feel that is attractive. She likes it when he likes the other person more.

김현정 : 힘들지 않대요?
Hyeonjeong Kim : That’s not tiring?

최경은 : 그래서 굉장히 힘들어했어요. 근데 사실 결혼은 착한 남자랑 했어요.
Kyeong-eun Choi : So it was really tiring for her. But actually she married a kind man.

김현정 : 그렇죠. 나쁜 남자는 그냥 잠깐만 좋고,

네, 밤새 잘생긴 연예인에 대해서 이야기할 수 있을 정도로 (네) 정말 잘생기고, 키 크고, 이런 남자를 좋아하는데 (네)

그렇지만 그런 사람이 정말 현실 속에 나타나서 (네) 연예인이 아니고, (네) 저랑 데이트를 한다고 생각을 하면 (네) 사실 만약에 그렇게 잘생겼어도 음…
However that kind of person, in real everyday life (Yea) they aren’t celebrities (Yea) if they go on a date with me and I think about it (Yea) honestly, even if they are really handsome, um…

너무 나쁜 남자라던가, (네) 저한테 되게 불친절하게 대하거나 (네) 그러면 사실 그 사람이 절대 잘생겨 보이지가 않아요. 저는.
If they are too much of a bad boy, (yea) and he is very treats me very unkindly (Yea) then actually I won’t think that person looks handsome. That’s what I think at least.

김현정 : 그렇죠.
Hyeonjeong Kim : Yea.

최경은 : 네. 정말 외모는 정말 잘생겼는데 성격이 너무 나쁘면 (네) 저는 못생겨 보이더라고요.
Kyeong-eun Choi : Yea. If they outer appearance is really good but their personality is bad, (Yea) they aren’t handsome to me.

김현정 : 네, 보기가 싫죠.
Hyeonjeong Kim : Yea, you will hate looking at him.

최경은 : 네. 절대 매력적이지 않은 것 같아요. 그런 사람은.
Kyeong-eun Choi : Yea. I don’t think that is attractive at all. That kind of person.

김현정 : 그리고 어쩌면 잘생겨서 나쁜 점도 많아요. 여자들한테 다가가면 여자들이 보통 바람둥이 일거라고 (음… 맞아요.) 생각을 하죠.
Hyeonjeong Kim : And in some ways there are a lot of bad things about being good looking. Normally when they get close to girls they will think they are just a playboy. (Um… You’re right)

최경은 : 네, 맞아요. 저도 그럴 것 같아요. 너무… 비가 나타나서 (네) 물론 (비 너무 좋아하는데요.) 그럴 리가 없겠지만, 비가 나타나서 (네) 경은 씨가 좋다.

Kyeong-eun Choi : Right. And when people go on blind dates (Yea) In Korea at least people often go on blind dates and group blind dates don’t they. (Yea)

여자들은 소개팅을 시켜 준다고 하면, ‘어, 그 남자 성격이 어때? 그 남자 무슨 일을 해?’ 그 남자에 대해서 자세히 물어 보는데 (네) 남자들은 한 마디 물어 보죠.
When girls set up blind dates “Oh, how is that guy’s personality? What does he do?” they ask in detail about that guy but (Yea) guys only ask one thing don’t they.

김현정 : 예. 예뻐?
Hyeonjeong Kim : Yea. Is she pretty?

최경은 : 그 여자 예뻐? (네) 그렇게 (예) 말하는 것 같아요.
Kyeong-eun Choi : Is that girl pretty? (Yea) I think they ask (Yea) like that.

남자인 친구들하고 이야기를 하다 보면 (네) 그 친구들이 그렇게 얘길 하더라고요.
When I talked with my guy friends (Yea) they said this.

못생기고 (네) 성격이 나쁜 여자가 있고, (네) 예쁘고 성격이 나쁜 여자가 있으면, 못생기고 성격이 나쁜 여자는 일주일 참을 수 있데요.
If there are girls that are ugly (Yea) and have a bad personality, (Yea) and girls that that are pretty and have a bad personality, they can only put up with ugly girls who have a bad personality for one week.

(예) 근데 예쁘고 성격이 나쁜 여자는 적어도 일년은 참을 수 있다고 (우와…) 그렇게 이야기를 하더라고요.
(Yea) But if they are pretty and have a bad personality they can put up with them for at least one year. (Wow) That is how I heard it from them.

김현정 : 어떻게 참을 수 있죠? 그걸?
Hyeonjeong Kim : How can they endure? That?

최경은 : 저도 신기해요. (음…) 어, 진짜. (음…)

최경은 : 네, 재미있는 남자. 그렇게 잘생기고 (네) 키 큰 남자도 물론 매력 있지만 (네) 그런 남자들이 나쁜 남자일 경우에는 (네) 매력이 없어지는 거죠.
Kyeong-eun Choi :

김현정 : 그러니까 그게 잘생긴 얼굴이 전부가 되는 게 아니라 그냥 좋은 점 중의 하나만 될 수 있다는 거죠?
Hyeonjeong Kim :

최경은 : 네, 맞아요. 한국 여자들이 전부 다 그렇다는 건 아니고요. 이거는 저희의 이야기입니다.
Kyeong-eun Choi : Yea, right. Not all Korean girls are like that. This is just are thoughts.

김현정 : 그래요.
Hyeonjeong Kim : Right.
